This report supports the idea that legalizing marijuana would take large sums of profits from the Mexican cartels. Many people claim the cartels would ramp up drug trafficking with the other illegal drugs but this report shows that use of such drugs is on the decline. Legalizing marijuana, America's number one cash crop, would certainly put a major dent in the Mexican cartels funding from illegal drug trafficking.

Of course, marijuana use is rising. It's relatively cheap (compared to a nice-sized bottle of Jack), it's a pleasure to smoke, it helps you feel a bit more laid-back...why wouldn't more people be interested in it? Maybe more people are realizing it's not the mind-altering, psychoses-inducing monster from the Reefer Madness train of thought. More older folks are trying it for the medicinal benefits. Younger ones hear about how great it is from their friends. Middle-of-the-roaders just liked it back in the '70s (& perhaps never gave it up, they liked it so much). I can totally understand why its use is rising.
